Example of a Prayer Warrior: Rachel Howington

Aunt ShellyThis is a post that my Aunt Shelly (She is on the right) wrote that I wanted to share with you.  She goes by Rachel now and has had a profound impact on my life.  Especially since she was the major spiritual influence in the life of my mother coming to faith.  When she retired she went to the mission field.  When you are around her you can tell that she walks with God.  I wish I was more like that.

-Finding my Place-

After my conversion to Christ, prayer became as constant as breathing however, throughout the day or night I always found a secluded place to spend time to be alone to pray quietly or loudly; whichever seemed to be right for the time.

We lived in a two-story house and during the day upstairs kneeling beside my bed seemed to be the best place. In the evening after everyone was asleep, I’d slip downstairs to kneel by the living room couch and have a time of prayer. Early mornings with my coffee there was a place on the front porch to sit and talk with Him, and listen for His direction for the day enjoying the sky, the trees and all He has made. I didn’t realize how special these places had become until we moved from that house in town to a smaller one in the country. For days, I felt as if I had been turned upside down. My dishes had a place, the couch had its place, the bedroom was still the bedroom but, somehow I had lost my place to pray. There was a back porch on which to sit and talk with him and enjoy the countryside, but there seemed to be no place to really be alone to pray as I needed to (quietly or aloud).

Finally, after several weeks of searching, a huge oak tree across the pasture became my place to pray. How I enjoyed that oak tree! When I would lean against it, I was reminded of the strength and sturdiness of the Lord Jesus. Many hours were spent there at “My Place”, the oak tree. We have moved several times since then, and I have that same adjustment, searching for my place to be alone with Him and pray. what a wonderful privilege to be able to commune by the Holy Spirit with our gentle savior, our loving heavenly Father our great and mighty God, He is our peace in troubling times. Find a place and talk to Him. “FOR IN HIM WE LIVE AND MOVE AND HAVE OUR BEING” Acts 17:28a
