In the Bible there is a familiar exchange between the Lord and the man and the woman after they had disobeyed him. In their now fallen state they awaited the consequences for their behavior. Both got a dozy of a curse. We are doing a study at our church about the curse for woman this week.
To the woman He said, “I will greatly multiply Your pain in childbirth, In pain you will bring forth children; Yet your desire will be for your husband, And he will rule over you.”
The teacher of the study had a great insight that is worthy to repeat. He said the word desire here is a not a term of sexual desire but rather a desire to usurp the man in his role as leader of the relationship. The quote is, “men she is not warm for your form but hot for your spot.” Many a marriage is undercut because of husbands not wanting to lead and the wife wanting to, too much.
