Jesus…is Lord…Jesus…is Lord…Jesus…is Lord!

I graduated from Benton High School in 1981. I didn’t really know what I wanted to do so I sat out a semester before I went to college. One of the things I did during my time off was to travel around to visit some of my friends who had gone on to different colleges in Arkansas. The one visit that sealed my desire to go to the University of Arkansas included a ticket (with a fake id) to the 1981 UA/Texas football game. Texas was ranked #1 in the country and expected to win, but Arkansas absolutely dominated them. By the end of the contest the fans in the stands were giddy with excitement. Everything had gone our way and the fans were absolutely enthralled with anything Razorback. Toward the end of the game we felt such love and appreciation that we began to chant back and forth from each side of the stadium: ARKANSAS, RAZORBACKS, ARKANSAS, RAZORBACKS, ARKANSAS, RAZORBACKS, ARKANSAS, RAZORBACKS, ARKANSAS, RAZORBACKS, ARKANSAS, RAZORBACKS!

Now I am not an Arkansas cheer historian so I don’t know if that was the first time that this particular cheer had been done or not. But I know it was never done better! (And I have been following the Hogs for over 30 years now.) As fans we had to express our love for the Hogs. It could not be contained.

I think that is the kind of feeling we will have in heaven. In Philippians 2, there is a great passage about the exaltation of Jesus that almost looks like a Hog Call.

9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
and gave him the name that is above every name,
10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.

Can’t you just see it? One side of heaven chants JESUS! To which the other side of heaven chants IS LORD!

JESUS…IS LORD… JESUS…IS LORD… JESUS…IS LORD… JESUS…IS LORD… JESUS…IS LORD… JESUS…IS LORD… JESUS…IS LORD… JESUS…IS LORD… JESUS…IS LORD… JESUS…IS LORD.

And all the time the Father is sitting on His throne grinning from ear to ear as He receives glory from the exaltation of His Son.

I hope I am on the JESUS side!
