Longing for Eden

By

This morning I was spending a little time in Isaiah 51 and ran across an interesting verse about how the Lord was going to restore His chosen people and make her wilderness like Eden and her desert like the garden of the Lord.  Honestly, I am not sure what He is referring to but it got me to thinking about how much our world has fallen from the days of Eden.  Just in my little neck of the woods we have seen a tremendous amount of rain that have swollen our rivers and lakes.  We turn on the TV and we watch massive tornadoes decimate the south, earthquakes and tsunamis wipe out enormous areas of coastlines and the confidence of a nation and it is obvious that something is askew.  This morning my son’s school in NW Arkansas had their first ever earthquake drill.  What is going on!  We need the comfort of the Lord

3 Indeed, the Lord will comfort Zion; He will comfort all her waste places.  And her wilderness He will make like Eden,  And her desert like the garden of the Lord; Joy and gladness will be found in her, Thanksgiving and sound of a melody.

Maybe we have lost Paradise but our hearts long for Eden.  A place of wholeness.  A place where creation and the created ones coincide without incident.  We long for the new heaven and the new earth.  Creation groans and so do we.  We long for things to be put back in place.  Back the way they were supposed to be.
